Abstract:
To gain an in-depth understanding of the development trend of China′s soybean industry and support the steady advancement of the national food security strategic objectives, a soybean industry safety index assessment model was constructed based on 13 indicators across four quantifiable dimensions: production safety, market safety, technology safety, and ecological safety. Leveraging relevant statistical data of the soybean industry, the safety status of China′s soybean industry from 2013 to 2023 was analyzed. In combination with China′s soybean industry revitalization strategy, the suggestions for the safe development of the soybean industry were put forward from four aspects: production, market, technology, and ecology. The results showed that from 2013 to 2023, the overall safety level of China′s soybean industry showed a phased fluctuating trend, with only four years in the basically safe range, indicating that there was still considerable room for improvement in the overall safety level. Specifically, the production safety index, influenced by self-sufficiency rate, per capita possession, and inventory-consumption ratio, showed an overall upward fluctuation; the market safety index, affected by market price fluctuations and agricultural insurance levels, exhibited a highly volatile trend; the technology safety index, influenced by yield per unit area, new variety approval rate, comprehensive mechanization rate of plowing, planting and harvesting, and total factor productivity, showed a fluctuating upward trend; the ecological safety index, affected by sowing area, disaster-affected area, fertilizer and pesticide costs, remained relatively stable. Based on these findings, suggestions were proposed, such as strengthening the basic guarantee level to steadily increase the self-sufficiency rate of soybean, enhancing the supply chain guarantee capability to improve the stability of the soybean market, actively promoting the revitalization of soybean seed industry to enhance technological innovation capabilities, and optimizing the production and management system to build a new pattern of green development for the soybean industry.
