Abstract:
      Red palm oil is a vegetable oil extracted from oil palm fruit, which retains a wealth of active substances because it is only moderately processed and does not undergo a full refining process. In order to improve the public′s scientific understanding of red palm oil, the nutritional ingredients, efficacy of red palm oil were reviewed, and future research directions were envisioned. The nutritional ingredients of red palm oil mainly includes fatty acids, carotenoid, vitamin E (tocopherol, tocotrienol), etc. It has the efficacy of preventing vitamin A deficiency, preventing cardiovascular disease, antioxidant and anticancer. In the future, further research on the processing technology of red palm oil is needed to minimize the loss of active ingredients and improve the quality of the product, while further studies are needed on the effective dose and mechanism of action of red palm oil in preventing or treating certain diseases in Chinese people.
