| Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) has been used as a medicine for a long time. Sea buckthorn oil is divided into sea buckthorn seed oil and sea buckthorn pulp oil according to different sources. Both of sea buckthorn seed oil and sea buckthorn pulp oil are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, tocopherols,beta carotene and sterols. The research result shows that the sea buckthorn oil has many pharmacological functions, including protection on cardiovascular and gastrointestinal tract, moisturization on skin, promotions of tissue regeneration of the skin and epithelial tissue healing, improvement of skin senility, relief of dry eye and auxiliary protection against chemical liver injury. In addition, sea buckthorn oil has certain functions of anti-inflammation, antioxidation and enhancement of immunity. The functional components, pharmacological property and present development status of sea buckthorn seed oil and sea buckthorn pulp oil were summerized so as to provide certain theoretical foundation and basis for the functional product development of sea buckthorn oil. |
