Abstract: |
Studies show that ω-3 fatty acids can reduce the risk of the occurence of cardiovascular disease, and its biologic and molecular effects can modulate the development and progression of atherosclerosis which include its effects on inflammation, platelet function, blood pressure, triglyceride levels and the stability of atherosclerotic plaques. The ω-3 fatty acids include α-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. Flaxseed oil is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, and it is one of the most abundant sources of α-linolenic acid. Furthermore, study shows that flaxseed oil can effectively slow down the development of atherosclerosis. The advance in anti-atherosclerotic effect of flaxseed oil was summarized in order to provide theoretical reference for the study of improvement of flaxseed oil on atherosclerosis. |
