Abstract: |
Pumpkin seed sterol extracted from pumpkin seed oil was used to study its effect on antioxidant activity in SD rats. In the experiment, pumpkin seed sterol was divided into three doses of 80, 160, 320 mg/(kg·d) to feed SD rats, and SD rats without gavage of pumpkin seed sterol were used as blank control group. After 35 d, all SD rats were sacrificed, and their serum and liver were taken for determination of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) level, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, malondialdehyde (MDA) and serum 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) contents. The results showed that T-AOC levels, GSH-Px and SOD activities increased in serum and liver of SD rats in the three dose groups compared with the blank control group. MDA content in serum and liver and 8-OHdG content in serum decreased. It indicated that pumpkin seed sterol could promote the enhancement of antioxidant capacity in SD rats, and this effect was dose-dependent to some extent. |
