Abstract: |
A vitamin E isomer composition database of common edible vegetable oils was established through consulting the worldwide official food composition databases and reviewing the latest literatures on the contents of different tocopherols and tocotrienols in edible vegetable oils. The results showed that available food composition databases all reported limited types of edible vegetable oil with incomplete contents of tocopherols and tocotrienols, indicating obvious regional variances. Through summarizing the latest Chinese studies, the contents of α-, β-, γ-and δ-tocopherols were collected for 22 types of plant oils(n=659) and the contents of α-,(β+γ)-, δ-tocotrienols were collected for 17 types(n=183). Tocopherols, dominated by α-tocopherol and γ-tocopherol, were widely found in various types of vegetable oils with great content differences. Tocotrienols, however, mainly existed in palm oil, rice bran oil and grape seed oil and were rarely found in other vegetable oils. The choice of different types of edible vegetable oil affected the intake of total VE and individual isomers. At present, the official databases indicated regional differences and could not cover the common edible vegetable oil species. It was necessary to update the VE database of common edible vegetable oil products. |
