Walnuts are rich in polyphenols, especially in the by-products of walnut processing, such as green husk, shell, pellicle, diaphragm, etc. However, these by-products are often treated as waste and have very low value. The bioactivities of walnut polyphenols, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammation anti-tumor, prevention of cardiovascular disease, nutritional value on the human brain, prevention or treatment of diabetes and other bioactivities were reviewed so as to provide a scientific basis for the comprehensive development and utilization of walnut by-products. |
