Abstract: |
The Borago officinalis seed oil was extracted using three phase partitioning (TPP). The effects of various factors including extraction time, solid-liquid ratio, dosage of ammonium sulfate and volume ratio of aqueous phase to t-butanol on the yield of Borago officinalis seed oil were studied, and these parameters were optimized. Moreover, the effects of ultrasound pretreatment assisted TPP and ultrasound assisted TPP on the extraction of Borago officinalis seed oil were compared. The results showed that the optimal conditions of TPP were obtained as follows: solid-liquid ratio 1∶ 15, extraction time 20 min, dosage of ammonium sulfate 0.35 g/mL and volume ratio of aqueous phase to t-butanol 1∶ 2. Under these conditions, the yield of Borago officinalis seed oil was 31.26%. When ultrasound was used as process intensification method, the extraction time could be shortened, and the ultrasound pretreatment assisted TPP process was better than ultrasound assisted TPP process. Under the conditions of ultrasound pretreatment time 160 s, ultrasound power 100 W and duty cycle 50%, the yield of Borago officinalis seed oil was 33.57%, which was 2.31 percentage points higher than that of TPP. So, TPP after ultrasound pretreatment was an effective method for oil extraction. |
