Abstract:
To ascertain the effects of branched-chain fatty acids (BCFA) and odd-chain fatty acids (OCFA) on intestinal health, serum fatty acid contents in healthy population and patients with intestinal diseases were measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Orthogonal partial least-squares discrimination analysis(OPLS-DA)was used to identify characteristic fatty acid of intestinal healthy population. The results showed that 9 kinds of BCFA and 4 kinds of OCFA were detected in the healthy control group, intestinal polyp group and colorectal cancer group. The contents of BCFA and OCFA were significantly higher in healthy population(p<0.05), and the contents of anteiso-C17∶ 0 and C17∶ 0 showed a gradient decreasing trend with the deterioration of intestinal health status (p<0.05). OPLS-DA identified six characteristic fatty acid markers of anteiso-C17∶ 0, iso-C17∶ 0, C18∶ 1, C18∶ 0, C16∶ 0 and C14∶ 0. To sum up, BCFA and OCFA have a potential protective effect on intestinal health.
